Southbourne Tennis Club Champions Accessibility Tennis

A valuable insight into what accessibility tennis means for those who attend Southbourne Tennis Club, and their parents/carers.  Our thanks to Aidan, whose son Liam has attended the club for over 6 years, for his words.

‘As a parent of a special need son, I feel I can express on behalf of fellow parents or carers of the young people who attend Southbourne Tennis Club to participate in accessibility tennis.

My son Liam has attended weekly sessions for over 6 years and also has one to one lessons and like all the other young people, enjoys the opportunities provided by the dedicated team at the club.

It is a joy to see these young people each Saturday all the year round. Southbourne Tennis Club is a credit to the LEA as is David, Liana and the other coaches and volunteers who give of their time and experience to enable accessibility for our young people. With the support of local Rotary and other organisations, a yearly tournament is arranged where all young special need players receive a medal.

The tennis sessions are excellent for those attending having the opportunity to take part and develop their movement and racket skills. They also share friendship, support and care and encouragement for each other. Parents and carers have the opportunity to meet, chat, have a coffee and share ideas and just have time to relax whilst their young ones enjoy playing tennis.

Thank you to a great tennis club, coaches, volunteers and Southbourne Tennis Club for enabling special needs young people to experience the game and the joy you give to all of us. The club is a credit to the LTA.

Please continue to support clubs financially to develop and improve provision for Tennis for All.’
